“Our
daughters were carried away by the insurgents like cows into the wilderness. If
they are dead; we want to see their corpses. For the past two weeks that the
incident occurred, nobody has talked to us; has the government thrown away the
bath water with the baby?’’
This is coming from mothers and other aggrieved women
of Chibok, Borno State. On Tuesday, 29th April 2014, these women
staged a protest at the National Assembly calling on the government to speed up
the release of their daughters that were kidnapped from the Government Girls
Secondary school on April 14th.
The women were all dressed in black, after
converging at the eagle square they peacefully matched to the National
Assembly. Senators Barnabas Gemade and Helen Esuene received the protesters and
said the senate was considering raising a motion with respect to the kidnapped
girls for the house to deliberate on.
