News In Nigeria: FCMB Emerges Best In Pre-paid Card Issuance

 

In a statement from First City Monument Bank Nigeria Plc (FCMB) yesterday, FCMB said it has been honoured as the ‘Best Bank in Pre-paid Card Issuance for 2012’ at the annual Verve Bank Awards organized by Interswitch Nigeria Limited recently in Lagos.

In their statement, the bank said it beat two other nominees in the category to win the award by recording the highest growth in pre-paid cards, quoting the organizers, FCMB has “contributed significantly towards the realization of the objectives of the cashless policy initiative.”

Director of Switching and Processing of Interswitch, Mr. Akeem Lawal, commended FCMB for the “clear cut strategy and efforts put into driving prepaid card implementation, especially as it helps to promote financial inclusion for the under banked.” Mr. Akeem Mustafa (Group Head, High Networth Individuals and affluent Segment of Consumer Banking, received the award on behalf of FCMB.

He thanked Interswitch for recognizing the banks efforts and contribution.
 



News In Nigeria: Former Nigerian President (Obasanjo) House gutted by Fire


A section of Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo‘s multimillion naira house was gutted by fire yesterday 27th December, 2012.

Security personnel, which included men from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Nigerian Police Force, and the State Security Service, joined the Firefighters from the Ogun State Fire Service to curtail the Fire from spreading to other parts of the building.

Sources, however , said the fire was caused by an electrical surge from one of the personal offices of the former president and that it destroyed some Important documents.
The incident attracted sympathizers, political associates and family members to the former president.
