GTB named Best Bank in Nigeria

Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) plc has been named the Best Bank in Nigeria by Euromoney magazine, for the fourth consecutive year.

The award was presented in London earlier this month at the 2012 Euromoney Awards for Excellence Dinner, which recognised the excellence of financial institutions around the world.

Clive Horwood, editor of Euromoney, described the fourth consecutive award for GTB as an unprecedented feat and an indication of its position as a first class institution.

GTB Group Managing Director and CEO Segun Agbaje attributed the firm’s success to its well-defined strategy and the passion and commitment of its staff.

At the same awards ceremony Banco Santander received the award for Best Bank in the World, the third time the Spanish financial institution has won the award in the last seven years.

Serious: 800 Women Die In Pregnancy Every Day - Oshotimehin

“Every day, some 800 women die  in pregnancy or childbirth from complications that are very often preventable” United Nations Population Fund Executive Director, Babatunde Oshotimehin has said.

The former Nigerian minister of Health who made the observation at the  world population day roundtable discussion  organised by World Population Fund and National population Commission said “for every women who dies around 20 more suffer debilitating child birth injuries such as Obstetric Vistula.”

Represented by the Deputy Representative UNFPA in Nigeria  Koffi Kounme, Oshotimehin  reaffirmed his organisation’s commitment to family planning.

NLI hosts families of Dana Air tragedy

The families of the victims of Dana Air Tragedy will be hosted by the Nigerian Leadership Initiative (NLI) on July 14 at the Muson Center, Lagos at 10am.

An Information Forum is being organized to assist the families and dependents, of victims, with their problems and concerns during the grieving process as well as disseminate information on their options and rights resulting from the tragedy. Specifically, specialist advice and guidance will be offered on a range of issues including:-
- Counselling and Welfare
- Rights and options for families and dependents
- Next steps and processes in accident investigation of Dana Air flight 992
