Serious: 800 Women Die In Pregnancy Every Day - Oshotimehin

“Every day, some 800 women die  in pregnancy or childbirth from complications that are very often preventable” United Nations Population Fund Executive Director, Babatunde Oshotimehin has said.

The former Nigerian minister of Health who made the observation at the  world population day roundtable discussion  organised by World Population Fund and National population Commission said “for every women who dies around 20 more suffer debilitating child birth injuries such as Obstetric Vistula.”

Represented by the Deputy Representative UNFPA in Nigeria  Koffi Kounme, Oshotimehin  reaffirmed his organisation’s commitment to family planning.

Very Important...

“We already have an internationally consensus on how to address that.  All we need now are resources and accelerated and sustained action working for the survival and the well-being of women and girls is a human right imperative. And in order to take advantage of women’s full potentials in the development of the nations, they must be able to plan their lives and families. This is why the international community is determined to make the universal access to reproductive health care a priority.”

"As we commemorate the world population day it is time re-energise our commitment to the universal access to reproductive health services especially voluntary family planning.

Dear Government please emphasize commitment on access to reproductive health o!
