Did Goldie Die of Pulmonary Embolism?

After the sudden and painful demise of Music Star Susan Goldie Harvey, i just couldn't  understand it, so i kept enquiring about the cause of death.

A statement that was issued by her record label pointed that she complained of a severe headache shortly after her arrival from the United States where she went to witness the Grammy Award. She was rushed from her Park View, Ikoyi, Lagos residence to her official hospital, Reddington, Victoria Island, Lagos, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival at exactly 7:30pm in the evening,”

Goldie’s death was painful. However, i heard over one of the T.V stations this morning that Goldie might have died of pulmonary embolism.

Pulmonary embolism is a blockage of the main artery of the lung or one of its branches by a substance that has travelled from elsewhere in the body through the bloodstream (embolism).

It most commonly results from a blood clot in the deep veins of the legs or pelvis (deep vein thrombosis) that breaks off and migrates to the lung, a process termed venous thromboembolism (VTE). A small proportion of cases are due to the embolization of air, fat, talc in drugs of intravenous drug abusers, tumors, or amniotic fluid.

Reps to Ban Use of Foreign Currencies Publicly in Nigeria

The House of Representatives, yesterday, moved to ban the use of foreign currencies in local and domestic transactions in Nigeria. This was sequel to a motion brought to the floor of the House by Hon Nadu Karibe, representing Bayelsa State.

Karibe who led the debate had argued that “every country has its currency which serves as a means of exchange, a symbol of identity, a source of pride and a sign of independence and economic stability.”

He also observed that “without equivocation, the Naira is the only means of exchange for local and domestic transactions in Nigeria. There is a growing trend in the use of foreign currencies, especially the US Dollar for payments of school fees, hotel bills, real estate, rent and purchase in bars, night clubs, luxury good shops, in Nigeria.”

He further argued that “this trend has led to the high demand of these foreign currencies, especially the US Dollars in Nigeria.”

Speaker of the House, Hon Aminu Tambuwal at this juncture asked members to make their contributions.

RIP Goldie! Kennis Music Release Official Statement

Statement from the CEO of Kennis Music, Kenny Ogungbe pictured above with the late singer.

“With a deep sense of loss, we announce the shocking death of our darling music star, Goldie Harvey.
Goldie, 31, died on Thursday after she complained of a severe headache shortly after her arrival from the United States where she went to witness the Grammy Award. She was rushed from her Park View, Ikoyi, Lagos residence to her official hospital, Reddington, Victoria Island, Lagos, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival at exactly 7:30pm in the evening.

We consider this period a gloomy moment for us and the entire Nigerian music industry in view of the circumstance in which she passed away; the abundance of talent she exhibited in her short but eventful music career and the various opportunities her trip to the United States of America would have availed her.

She is survived by her father, step- mother, brothers and sisters. We deeply sympathise with her family and fans all over the world and very grateful to all and sundry, especially, the vibrant Nigerian media for their concern and prompt reportage. We shall keep everybody informed as events unfold as
we are devastated by the sudden loss.”

I'm still very shaken! This is very Sad, Let's mourn her today! :-(

Beware of Kissing Diseases Doctor's Warn

Medical researchers and experts have warned lovers to beware, because kissing is a source of several diseases and infections, such as hepatitis B, infectious mononucleosis or kissing disease, gum diseases, strep throat, infectious diseases from mouth sores, hand, foot, and mouth disease, HIV and meningococcal diseases.

World Health Organisation, WHO , identifies Hepatitis viruses’ infection to be a major disease burden worldwide.

The worldwide estimate based on weighted average for regions rather than individual because of lack of data with prevalence in industrialised countries revealed that Hepatitis C virus (HCV) type accounts for 20% of cases of acute hepatitis, 70% of cases of chronic hepatitis, 40% of cases of end stage cirrhosis, 60% of cases of  hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and 30% of  liver transplants. An estimated 27% of cirrhosis and 25% of  hepatocellular carcinoma worldwide occur in HCV-infected people.

According Dr. Olufunmilayo Lesi, a consultant physician and gastroenterologist at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Nigeria belongs to the group of countries highly endemic for this viral hepatitis. Its prevalence is about 10-20 per cent in Nigeria from the extrapolation of 90 million Nigerians.

Dr. Lesi described hepatitis as a condition that involves the inflammation or swelling of the liver. A disease condition that can be caused by viral infections A-E, bacteria, drugs, alcohol, certain medications, chemicals, bacteria, poisons, toxins, or by other diseases and ‘through kissing.’

“It is a disease condition that spreads like a plague and cracks the largest organ in the body like an earthquake, with long term asymptomatic damage to the liver if the infection is in a chronic stage. The long term damage to the liver restrains the liver from performing its numerous functions,”she said.

'I had cancer of the nose' - Governor Sullivan Chime

The Enugu state governor spoke to journalists in Enugu on Monday. Below is what he shared...

“Late August or early September, last year, I am not sure again of the dates, but it is about that time. I was privileged to be one of those nominated by the Nigeria Governors Forum to go to Germany to understudy their federal system. A Governor was picked from each of the six geo-political zones. I represented the South-East and of course, we were led by our Chairman, Rotimi Amaechi.

“On our way to Germany, I decided to go a little bit earlier, passing through London to do my medicals because of what I will call lack of our time. We do not have time here. So, I decided to take that opportunity, got to London and did my medicals and was certified fit. I was given a clean bill of health. But I had a little growth here (pointing at the right side of his neck) that was not visible to anybody. I am a very observant person. I noticed it, showed it to my doctor and he touched it and said he didn’t feel it is anything serious, that I should just try and forget it.

“So, I thought they would have seen anything if there was anything wrong when they were doing the general scanning and screening, but nothing was found. So, I just singled it and said, please, this particular thing, I will like it to be investigated. I was referred to GB who after examining me and asking me questions, because I told him, no symptoms, no pains, no discomfort from anywhere. He said as far as he was concerned, there was nothing wrong but as a professional advised me to investigate it further because I was almost running out of time, short of time.

“I made arrangements with them to help me set up appointments for closer examination of the growth. So the next day I left for Germany to join my colleagues. On that trip was my Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Dr. Jude Akubuilo and my SSA Investment. They were already in Germany waiting for me and so, I joined them. At the end of the day, about a week after they had set up the arrangement, I left Germany. I left my colleagues. I told them where I was going, went back to London and did the proper screening of that particular growth. They did biopsies and all that. So, in the process it was discovered that it was cancerous. The growth was cancerous.”

“Further investigation  revealed that the main tumour, because this actually turned out to be the lymph node, but the main tumour was behind my nose. It actually turned out to be what they called nasopharyngeal cancer- that is cancer of the nose. At that stage when you hear cancer, you will declare yourself dead before any further examination.  Then I asked them what should be done, they told me straight away that they will subject me to further screening to know if it had spread.  So luckily it hadn’t spread, it is just only in those two places.

“They said the good news is that it was curable and not manageable. It was curable, that was when I became interested.  And they said as soon as I was ready, they would commence treatment. Originally we had planned to go from Germany to Lebanon on our way back to Nigeria but I cancelled that trip, went back to Germany, informed my people I went with, came down to London with the Commissioner. The SSA hadn’t UK Visa then, so he traveled back to Nigeria from Germany. In London we made arrangement and agreed on when to come.

“So we came back to Nigeria and within the two weeks, I was able to make arrangements for transition. I wrote a letter to the Speaker of the House of Assembly in accordance with the constitution, informing him of my decision to proceed on leave and of course sought his cooperation to work very well with the Deputy Governor, who would work as governor in my absence. Within the two weeks, we held two exco meetings, the last was held on Tuesday, the week I left. After the EXCO meeting, I told my EXCO members that I was proceeding on long vacation which I wouldn’t know how long it would last to treat myself.  That was the information they got and of course I told them to cooperate with the acting governor. The following day, I left for Abuja, which was a Wednesday and again attended the meeting of the Governors’ Forum, that night. Then Thursday morning, we had National Economic Council meeting and the Deputy Governor was there to represent me.

2 Lions Bring Nairobi Traffic To A Halt!

Two lions brought rush-hour traffic to a standstill in Nairobi, Kenya when they decided to have a lie down in the middle the street.

It was during the morning commute on the the edge of the Nairobi National Park that two young males appeared on the side of the road and strolled out in front of cars and trucks for a roll-around.

The African lions' antics caused tail backs as they found the busy road the perfect place to rub themselves in buffalo feaces,

Amateur South African snapper Gareth Jones was one of the drivers stuck in the traffic jam last month and decided to get out and photograph the unique scene at 6.40am.They went into a ridiculous pose, with their rear ends up in the air and their faces down over some buffalo dung. They were trying to mask their smell so they could hunt undetected.

Keshi Drops Decision To Quit As Super Eagles Coach

Coach of the Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi, on Tuesday morning said he had dropped his decision to quit his position over issues with Nigeria’s football governing authorities.

Keshi said in a statement that he had cause to change his mind after discussing with “all concerned,” although he did not elaborate. There had been reports that Keshi told a South African radio station, Metro FM, about his decision to quit after winning the African Nations Cup on Sunday.
The had been allegations that Nigeia’s football authorities had planned to sack him before the nation’s match with Cote d’Ivoire.
However, the steady progress of the team was said to have stopped that move.
Keshi is being owed eight months salaries by his employers, the Nigerian Football Federation, while his official car has yet to be given to him.
Also, he is being owed money meant to have been paid to him during the competition.
After his resignation filtered out on Monday, the Presidency reportedly intervened and asked him to withdraw the letter and continue with his job while the issues are sorted out.

Beyoncé Knowles: The Queen B

Has there ever been a steeper, stranger, more rollicking two-week roller coaster in American pop-cultural life than the one Beyoncé Knowles rode from the middle of January (not long after I interviewed her for Vogue) into early February?

The craziness started, of course, with that national anthem on the Capitol steps; Beyoncé’s soaring rendition was lavishly praised at first, but then it was revealed to have been sung to a prerecorded track. The resulting uproar was noisy and blustery and as close to a scandal as Beyoncé had experienced in her life; for an artist accustomed to controlling the narrative, it was unfamiliar, awkward territory. It got nasty—Beyoncé was shoved forward as a symbol of a synthetic generation—and yet she said nothing for ten days, until surfacing in a white Olcay Gulsen minidress at a Super Bowl press conference in New Orleans on January 31.

There, she opened by singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” again—clearly live—in a soulful and satisfying and very much Beyoncé way. As a bit of crisis-management stagecraft, it was a knockout, and after Beyoncé sailed through to the “home of the brave,” she smiled and offered two words to her skeptics:

“Any questions?”

Who Gets Best Player/Performance At The AFCON Games?

Below are pictures of some of our players.
I know the games aint over, but who would you give it to as per best performance?

NAF has only one serviceable aircraft for training

The Air Officer Commanding Training Command, Air Vice Marshall Isyaku Umar, has lamented that the Nigerian Air Force Base in Kaduna has only one serviceable aircraft for the training of officers and men.

Umar told Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Alex Badeh, who was on his maiden familiarization tour of the NAF base in Kaduna yesterday that “the NAF base has only one serviceable aircraft used in the training of its personnel”, saying the training base needs a minimum of three aircraft to be able to conduct its local training as well as VIP missions.

He said since his assumption the command has been able to aid the federal government’s efforts in internal security operations with men and helicopter deployment and has as well participated actively in the recent Mali operation in line with NAF’s directives.

The command, according to him, has successfully graduated six student pilots (SP) of 38 course and five student instructor pilots recently concluded their training at 303 Options Training School.

Speaking after his tour of various units in the NAF base, Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Alex Badeh said his visit to the Kaduna Training Command was to familiarize with officers and men of the command with a view to repositioning and moving the Air Force forward.

“I expect myself to give approval for maintenance of facilities that are dilapidated...  we are recruiting more and more people in the service now as our services are required at all times and if resources permit, we will build more accommodation for our officers and men. Kaduna base has always done well, although there are small challenges here and there, but the government is doing its best to provide for our needs”, he said.
