Lagos Poly Girl Beaten To Death

A part-time Business Administration Student of Lagos State Polytechnic, Miss Olayinde Bournes, 22, has allegedly been beaten to death by her boyfriend, Abuchi Cyril.

The incident happened  Thursday at Shorinmade Street, Aguda-Ogba area of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria.

According to Miss Titilayo Fagbamila, friend of the deceased girl, she always complained to her that her boyfriend, Abuchi always beat her at the slightest provocation.

She said that on Thursday when the tragedy occurred, Abuchi invited Olayinde to his house along Shorinmade Street, to see his travel documents.

Titilayo said nobody knew what happened when the lovers were together but it is believed that they had a misunderstanding which may have led to a fight.

Sources at 17, Muibi Street residence of the deceased told P.M.NEWS that  after the fight with her boyfriend, the victim was rushed to G&S Hospital where she was confirmed dead before the corpse was taken to Ikeja General Hospital for autopsy.

Pistorius case - Oscar Pistorius Strict Bail Conditions

Oscar Pistorius has been given strict bail conditions as he awaits a murder trial following the death of Reeva Steenkamp.

The bail was set at one million South African Rand (£74,000). 100,000 must be paid immediately, the rest by next Friday.

The conditions are:

- He must appear in court at 8.30am on 4 June 2013.

- He must stay at an undisclosed address.

- He must not return home or have contact with residents there.

- He must report to Brooklyn Police Station between 7am and 1pm every 
   Monday and  Friday.

- He must hand in his passport, and must not apply for a new one.

- He must not enter the departure hall of any airport.

- He cannot leave Pretoria without permission.

SSS uncovers Iranian terror cell in Lagos

THE State Security Service said in Abuja on Wednesday that it had uncovered a terror network, coordinated by Iranians, in Lagos.

 The SSS said this while parading a leader of an Islamic sect, Abdullahi Berende, and two others said to be operators of the Iranian terror cell gathering information about Israelis and Americans living in Nigeria.

Paraded alongside 50-year-old Berende were Sulaiman Saka and Saheed Adewunmi. The three were said to be working for Iranian terrorists planning to attack Americans and Israelis in the country.

A third suspect, Bunyamin Yusuf, is said to be at large.

Berende who is said to be a leader of the Shi’a Islamic sect in Ilorin, Kwara State, told journalists that he was employed by “people who were ready to capitalise on my weakness,” though he denied being part of a terrorist network.

Deputy Director Public Relations, SSS, Marilyn Ogar, told journalists that Berende, an Islamic teacher, and local leader of the Shiite sect, was observed to have made several suspicious trips to and fro Iran where he interacted with some Iranians known to operate a high profile international terrorist network.

Ogar said that in the course of interrogation, Berende confessed that in 2006, he gained admission to study a six-month course in modern Shi’a Islamic teaching (Da’awa) at Imam Khomeini University, Iran.

She said, “Berende confessed that he was recruited by some Iranian elements when he returned to Iran for further studies in 2011 and was subsequently trained in the use of AK47 assault rifle, pistols, production and detonation of Improvised Explosive Devices and after he returned to Nigeria, he was invited by his handlers to Dubai for further briefing in April 2012; he was tasked to establish a terrorist cell in the South-Western part of Nigeria with particular emphasis on Lagos.”

The SSS boss further explained that in his bid to establish the terror network, Berende recruited Saka, Adewunmi and Yusuf, adding that the Iranian sponsors requested that he identified and gathered intelligence on public places and prominent hotels frequented by Americans and Israelis.

Ogar added that the Islamic teacher admitted that he personally took photographs of the Israeli cultural centre in Ikoyi, Lagos, which he sent to his trainers.

Oscar Pistorius Contract Suspended By Nike!

US sportswear giant Nike has suspended its contract with Oscar Pistorius, who is accused of murdering his girlfriend. 

"We believe Oscar Pistorius should be afforded due process and we will continue to monitor the situation closely," a Nike spokesman said.

It recently pulled ads that featured Mr Pistorius and the line, "I am the bullet in the chamber".

He also has deals with BT, Oakley, and Ossur, the Icelandic firm that makes his carbon-fibre blades.

Mr Pistorius, a Paralympic champion, denies the premeditated murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. He is in court in South Africa this week to press to be released on bail pending his trial. 

On Wednesday, Clarins said that it would no longer run Thierry Mugler ads featuring Mr Pistorius "out of respect and compassion for the families involved". 

16 Russians Arraigned Over Arms Importation

The captain of the ship, MV Myre Seadiver used for the importation of the arms and ammunition was arraigned separately  for unlawfully entering Nigeria through Nigeria’a territorial waters without due clearance and declaration of the goods carried on board of ship.

The Russians who could not understand English brought an interpreter from the Russian Embassy to interpret the charge to them. They all pleaded not guilty.

Consequently, their lawyer, Chike Okafor and two other lawyers told the court that they have filed bail application and the prosecutor has been served.

However, the prosecutor, Mr. Ezebilo, told the court he was served this morning, therefore, he needed two days to file his response.The presiding judge while acceding to the request of the prosecutor, adjourned till 25 February when the bail application will be heard.

Michael Jackson's teenage son Prince hired as TV reporter for Entertainment Tonight

Michael Jackson’s 16-year-old son has been hired as a reporter for American TV channel Entertainment Tonight.

Prince Jackson made his debut this week appearing with co-host Brooke Anderson, who mentored the teenager through his first interview with the stars of Oz the Great and Powerful.

Sitting outside the interview room, Anderson and Prince Jackson chatted about his forthcoming interview. Prince revealed he was more used to being in the spotlight and hadn’t interviewed anyone before, saying: “People are always asking me questions; it will be a great insight into the business.”

Commenting on the maturity of Prince, whose father died when her was 12, Anderson said: “You’re 16 years old but you seem so much older and so much wiser than your years.”

Prince replied: “That’s what most of my people say. That was all thanks to my dad. He raised me right.”

Despite his father’s life lived under the scrutiny of the media, Prince made it clear he has ambitions for stardom. He told the programmes: “I’m looking to become well-rounded as a producer, director, screenwriter and actor.”

Sitting down with the cast of Oz the Great and Powerful, he earnestly asked for their advice for someone starting out in the industry.

Critics have been quick to judge Prince's debut, questioning whether a 16-year-old has enough experience to conduct interviews about the entertainment world. The show’s producers have also come under fire for exploiting the teenager.
