He holds a Diploma in the Art and Technique of Film making from the London International Film School, London. And has worked on many feature films produced in Nigeria as a cinematographer.

 

He has also worked as a director on many feature films and manages Mainframe Film & Television Productions, an outfit formed to document Nigeria’s rich culture.

Some of the films, which he has to his credit include Ti Oluwa Nile, Ayo Ni Mo Fe, Koseegbe, O Le Ku, Saworoide, Arugba, and his latest, MAAMi.

Iranian news censors Michelle Obama’s Oscar gown

It's no surprise that some in the Middle East were not happy about the movie "Argo," which focuses on the Iranian hostage crisis which lasted from 1979 to 1981. But this is a reaction no one was expecting.

During Sunday's Academy Award's telecast, First Lady Michelle Obama made a surprise appearance, handing out the award for Best Picture via satellite from the White House. However, the Iranian news agency Fars not only took exception to the honors bestowed on Ben Affleck's film, which won the night's biggest award, they offered a less-than-subtle critique of the First Lady's dress.

Since Mrs. Obama's gown exposed her shoulders in a way that would violate the codes of modesty enforced in many Muslim nations, Fars photoshopped a picture of the First Lady, with the result offering significantly more coverage of her shoulders and chest. The digital alteration was discovered by photojournalist and blogger Golnaz Esfandiari.

Anenih Emerges As PDP BOT Chair

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party on Monday succeeded in choosing a Chairman for its Board of Trustees, BOT with  Chief Tony Anenih emerging as the consensus candidate for the position. 

Anenih, also chairs the Nigeria Ports Authority board, he is generally believed to be President Jonathan’s choice for the position. His emergence therefore signifies that forces loyal to the presidency are taking hold of the party ahead of the 2015 general election

Anenih, popularly known as Mr. Fix It was chosen  at a meeting of the party at the presidential villa in Abuja attended by President Goodluck Jonathan, Vice President Namadi Sambo, Senate President David Mark, House of Representatives Speaker, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, PDP chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim.

But it was also learnt that the process of Anenih’s emergence was also enhanced by the report of a verification committee led by Prof. Jerry Gana set up to streamline the membership of the board during its last meeting.

Lagos Poly Girl Beaten To Death

A part-time Business Administration Student of Lagos State Polytechnic, Miss Olayinde Bournes, 22, has allegedly been beaten to death by her boyfriend, Abuchi Cyril.

The incident happened  Thursday at Shorinmade Street, Aguda-Ogba area of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria.

According to Miss Titilayo Fagbamila, friend of the deceased girl, she always complained to her that her boyfriend, Abuchi always beat her at the slightest provocation.

She said that on Thursday when the tragedy occurred, Abuchi invited Olayinde to his house along Shorinmade Street, to see his travel documents.

Titilayo said nobody knew what happened when the lovers were together but it is believed that they had a misunderstanding which may have led to a fight.

Sources at 17, Muibi Street residence of the deceased told P.M.NEWS that  after the fight with her boyfriend, the victim was rushed to G&S Hospital where she was confirmed dead before the corpse was taken to Ikeja General Hospital for autopsy.

Pistorius case - Oscar Pistorius Strict Bail Conditions

Oscar Pistorius has been given strict bail conditions as he awaits a murder trial following the death of Reeva Steenkamp.

The bail was set at one million South African Rand (£74,000). 100,000 must be paid immediately, the rest by next Friday.

The conditions are:

- He must appear in court at 8.30am on 4 June 2013.

- He must stay at an undisclosed address.

- He must not return home or have contact with residents there.

- He must report to Brooklyn Police Station between 7am and 1pm every 
   Monday and  Friday.

- He must hand in his passport, and must not apply for a new one.

- He must not enter the departure hall of any airport.

- He cannot leave Pretoria without permission.

SSS uncovers Iranian terror cell in Lagos

THE State Security Service said in Abuja on Wednesday that it had uncovered a terror network, coordinated by Iranians, in Lagos.

 The SSS said this while parading a leader of an Islamic sect, Abdullahi Berende, and two others said to be operators of the Iranian terror cell gathering information about Israelis and Americans living in Nigeria.

Paraded alongside 50-year-old Berende were Sulaiman Saka and Saheed Adewunmi. The three were said to be working for Iranian terrorists planning to attack Americans and Israelis in the country.

A third suspect, Bunyamin Yusuf, is said to be at large.

Berende who is said to be a leader of the Shi’a Islamic sect in Ilorin, Kwara State, told journalists that he was employed by “people who were ready to capitalise on my weakness,” though he denied being part of a terrorist network.

Deputy Director Public Relations, SSS, Marilyn Ogar, told journalists that Berende, an Islamic teacher, and local leader of the Shiite sect, was observed to have made several suspicious trips to and fro Iran where he interacted with some Iranians known to operate a high profile international terrorist network.

Ogar said that in the course of interrogation, Berende confessed that in 2006, he gained admission to study a six-month course in modern Shi’a Islamic teaching (Da’awa) at Imam Khomeini University, Iran.

She said, “Berende confessed that he was recruited by some Iranian elements when he returned to Iran for further studies in 2011 and was subsequently trained in the use of AK47 assault rifle, pistols, production and detonation of Improvised Explosive Devices and after he returned to Nigeria, he was invited by his handlers to Dubai for further briefing in April 2012; he was tasked to establish a terrorist cell in the South-Western part of Nigeria with particular emphasis on Lagos.”

The SSS boss further explained that in his bid to establish the terror network, Berende recruited Saka, Adewunmi and Yusuf, adding that the Iranian sponsors requested that he identified and gathered intelligence on public places and prominent hotels frequented by Americans and Israelis.

Ogar added that the Islamic teacher admitted that he personally took photographs of the Israeli cultural centre in Ikoyi, Lagos, which he sent to his trainers.

Oscar Pistorius Contract Suspended By Nike!

US sportswear giant Nike has suspended its contract with Oscar Pistorius, who is accused of murdering his girlfriend. 

"We believe Oscar Pistorius should be afforded due process and we will continue to monitor the situation closely," a Nike spokesman said.

It recently pulled ads that featured Mr Pistorius and the line, "I am the bullet in the chamber".

He also has deals with BT, Oakley, and Ossur, the Icelandic firm that makes his carbon-fibre blades.

Mr Pistorius, a Paralympic champion, denies the premeditated murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. He is in court in South Africa this week to press to be released on bail pending his trial. 

On Wednesday, Clarins said that it would no longer run Thierry Mugler ads featuring Mr Pistorius "out of respect and compassion for the families involved". 

16 Russians Arraigned Over Arms Importation

The captain of the ship, MV Myre Seadiver used for the importation of the arms and ammunition was arraigned separately  for unlawfully entering Nigeria through Nigeria’a territorial waters without due clearance and declaration of the goods carried on board of ship.

The Russians who could not understand English brought an interpreter from the Russian Embassy to interpret the charge to them. They all pleaded not guilty.

Consequently, their lawyer, Chike Okafor and two other lawyers told the court that they have filed bail application and the prosecutor has been served.

However, the prosecutor, Mr. Ezebilo, told the court he was served this morning, therefore, he needed two days to file his response.The presiding judge while acceding to the request of the prosecutor, adjourned till 25 February when the bail application will be heard.
