After the poor performance of Nigeria's team at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Nigeria's Paralympic team on the other hand has so far had a brilliant show at the 2016 Rio Paralympics. So far, team Nigeria sits at the 12th position on the medals table with 8 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 2 bronze medals.
Nigeria's 8th gold medal came on Wednesday the 14th of September, 2016 from the power-lifter Josephine Orji, when she broke the world record of the women’s -+86kg power-lifting event at the ongoing 2016 Paralympics Games in Rio, Brazil. She had a lift of 154kg to win the gold medal.

Flora Ugwunwa also won the women’s javelin throw – F53/54 event with a throw of 20.25m, she also set a new world record beating Tunisia’s
Hania Aidi and South Africa’s Ntombizanele Situ to second and third

Petit Lauritta Onye won Nigeria’s other track and field gold in the Shot Put event. While Ndidi Nwosu defeated the defending champion to win women’s -73kg Powerlifting event gold medal.
Bose Omolayo brilliantly broke her own world record and set a new one of 138kg to win gold medal while Lucy Ejike, broke the Paralympic and world record three
successive times, to win the women’s -61kg event in power-lifting. She
successfully set a new paralympic record and
world record at the 136.kg lift last Sunday.
