News: Zambia's Election

Zambia's elections has just been concluded. Edgar Lungu Zambia's incumbent President was re-elected the winner after a closely contested presidential election. As expected, his major opponent Hakainde Hichilema challenged his Edgar's victory.

Edgar under the platform of the Patriotic Front (PF) party won 50.35 percent over and against the 47.67 percent Hakainde of the United Party for National Development (UPND).

But as it is peculiar with many African nation elections, this one too has come with political violence.

PF supporters confronted and attacked UPND followers causing chaos around the country. And the UNDP followers also had their own share of the blame.

Their crowd of followers also retaliated against the PF. It has been reported that physical confrontations between opposing crowds of supporters has been encountered in various parts of the country.

As it stands, Edgar Lungu has been re-elected. Many hope that they have made the right choice.

  1. Why are African elections always marred with violence? Why can't opposition leaders just concede defeat??!?

  2. It is an African thing. Most African Presidents or aspiring ones do not want to leave the seat of power let alone concede defeat. Ask R*********e ;-)
